The Justice-Involved Life Coach Certificate is a 4-month, fully online program designed to equip professionals with the skills and knowledge to support individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. Grounded in principles of social justice, health equity, and public health, the program prepares participants to address complex reentry challenges, reduce recidivism, and promote sustainable rehabilitation outcomes.

Through a combination of applied learning and real-world engagement, participants gain the tools needed to effectively support returning citizens and contribute to transformative change within communities.

What Is a Justice-Involved Life Coach?

A Justice-Involved Life Coach is a trained professional who supports individuals impacted by the criminal justice system by identifying and addressing barriers to successful reentry. These coaches provide guidance, advocacy, and support to help individuals navigate complex systems and achieve positive life outcomes.

What Is the Justice-Involved Life Coach Certificate Program?

Justice-Involved Care (JIC) is a 4-month online certificate program that seeks to enhance the skills of individuals currently working or aspiring to work with justice-involved individuals by offering online development courses geared toward mitigating the barriers encountered by justice-involved individuals returning citizens.

Modules include:

  1. Overview of U.S. Justice System: The Social Determinants of Reentry
  2. Is there a Problem: The Importance of Data Collection
  3. Connecting the Dots: Decreasing Recidivism Barriers
  4. Accessing Behavioral Health Services: Promoting Mental Health Equity, Substance Abuse, and Trauma.
  5. Culiminating Project: Face to Face interview with returning citizens, professional correctional personnel, and community service providers.

Students will:

  • Gain deeper insights into United States prison history and rehabilitation efforts
  • Understand the importance of data collection to improve care
  • Learn how to assist justice-involved individuals with navigating through complex systems
  • Identify and address key contributors to reducing justice-involved recidivism

*See below for Bridge to Justice Pipeline option for coaches who possess a bachelor’s degree.At the end of successfully completing all course requirements, participants will complete a course evaluation, attend graduation ceremony and receive a Certificate of Completion.

How to enhance career opportunities as a Justice-Involved Life Coach:

  • Improving ones knowledge of the criminal justice system and its societal impact.
  • Attaining a skillset that enables an individual to advocate for laws and policies that reduce recidivism.
  • Conceptualizing the significance of justice health by addressing adequate health care concerns during pre/post-release.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria by the application deadline:

  1. MacBook or PC and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  2. High School diploma, Associates degree preferred.
  3. Completed application
  4. One recommendation form required - Letters of recommendation are optional.
  5. Copy of resume
  6. Completed essay (no more than 1 page) explaining why you are interested in the “A Path Foward: Justice-Involved Life Coach” and why you would benefit from this program.

“A Path Forward”: Life Coach to MAJIC Options

As a part of the Pathway Forward Coaching Certificate, the Office of Online Education and Expanded Programs offers participants who have a bachelor’s degree and successfully complete this 4-month certificate program are given the opportunity to enter the *Master of Administration in Justice-Involved Care (MAJIC) degree program, along with a scholarship amount as determined by the program.

“Bridge to Justice” Pipeline Application Requirments: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria by the application deadline:

  1. MacBook or PC and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  2. High School diploma, Associates degree preferred.
  3. One recommendation form required - Letters of recommendation are optional.
  4. Completed application
  5. Official transcripts must be submitted when applying through the Pipeline Program for the Master of Administration in Justice- Involved Care Degree
  6. Completed essay (no more than 1 page) explaining why you are interested in the “Bridge to Justice” Pipeline and why
